Albers
Solo project: concept, design, build.
Built with: HTML, CSS, and plain JavaScript in a single file; inline SVG.
Overview:
An interactive study of colour relativity, based on the exercises in Josef Albers' 1963 book Interaction of Color. Albers taught that a colour is almost never seen as it physically is, and the way to believe it is to watch it happen. The app offers five of his demonstrations: simultaneous contrast, after-images, the Bezold effect, vibrating boundaries, and the illusion of transparency. Each starts from a preset and lets me change the colours to see where the effect holds and where it breaks. I built it to understand the principles by making them, and it has become a quick way to show clients why a colour that works in one place fails in another.
